advertisement

advertisement for Lukyn and Peters artificial teeth. Advertisement is on pale green paper with a gold border and a carmine illustration of an upper denture.

In the mid to late 19th century, advertisements for dentists took many forms. They were found in newspapers, postersm, leaflets and in theatre and event programmes. After the Dentists Act of 1878 the registered dentists largely refrained from this practice. Unregistered dentists continued but without using the terms 'dentist' or 'dental surgeon' which the Act had banned them from using.
