dental uberwurf

Uberwurf with octagonal wooden handle and metal claw. One end of the claw is sharpened into an elevator. It has 3 detachable claws fixed with a screw.

Uberwurfs were extraction instruments which worked on a similar principle to the pelican. The claw would hook over the tooth and the tooth worked backwards and forwards until it could be extracted sideways. The main difference was that the uberwurf did not have a bolster to rest against the gum.

maker: Gray, S. 1700-1750
